Ranchi trips, arranged by people who live here

Ranchi is the heart of Jharkhand tourism and the easiest place to start. Within a short drive you have Hundru, Jonha, Sita and Dassam Falls, hill temples like Pahari Mandir and Jagannath Temple, and relaxed evenings at Kanke Dam and Rock Garden.

Our Ranchi tour packages are planned around real driving distances, so a full waterfall day or a city-and-Patratu day fits comfortably. For a longer trip, add Rajrappa, McCluskieganj or continue to Netarhat, Betla and Deoghar from the same booking.

Places to visit in Ranchi

Hundru Falls

Hundru Falls

Hundru Falls is one of Jharkhand's most celebrated waterfalls, where the Subarnarekha River plunges about 98 metres (320 ft) over a rocky cliff near Ranchi. During and after the monsoon the falls turn into a roaring white curtain, and the spray can be felt from the viewing points above.

A long flight of around 700 steps leads down to the base, where the river forms a wide pool surrounded by smooth rock formations shaped by centuries of flowing water. The descent is worth it — the view from below is dramatic and the pool is a favourite picnic spot in winter.

Tip: wear good grip footwear, keep children away from the edges during heavy flow, and plan it with Jonha and Dassam Falls for a full-day waterfall circuit from Ranchi.

Jonha Falls

Also called Gautamdhara, Jonha Falls is where the Raru River (a tributary of the Subarnarekha) falls about 43 metres. It sits within a hanging valley surrounded by hills and thick sal forest.

A temple dedicated to Lord Buddha stands near the falls, linked with the legend that Gautama Buddha once bathed here — which is why the falls are called Gautamdhara. Around 500 steps lead down to the bottom.

Jonha is quieter than Hundru and ideal for families. Combine it with Hundru Falls on the same day since both lie on the Ranchi–Purulia road.

Sita Falls

Sita Falls is a quieter waterfall close to Jonha, falling around 85 metres into a rocky gorge. Local belief connects it with Goddess Sita, and a small temple sits nearby.

Because it sees fewer visitors, Sita Falls offers a calm natural setting away from crowds, surrounded by hills and forest paths.

Visit it along with Jonha Falls — both are reachable in a short drive from each other.

Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls, near Taimara village on the Ranchi–Tata highway, is formed by the Kanchi River dropping around 44 metres (144 ft) in several streams. The name comes from 'Da:Sanag', which in the local Mundari language refers to water falling in abundance.

The falls are surrounded by dense green forest and red rock, making it one of the most photogenic spots in Jharkhand. Viewing platforms and steps allow visitors to see the falls from multiple angles.

Swimming is strictly not advised because of strong undercurrents. It is best enjoyed from the viewpoints, ideally in the morning when the light falls on the water.
